Silicon Valley, California, Feb 2018/Meeting Recap/ On the eighth of February, we held our annual Predictions meeting, which is a mix of a fun annual quiz contest, as well as a relevant look ahead at what changes we expect to see in the new year. Predictions is largely broken up into two parts:
Part 1 is the quiz game. We issue each attendee a Ballot, and on the ballot are a variety of questions about 2018, and what people expect will happen in the fields of telecom, tech, and pop culture. Then, we revisit the ballots from the prior year, and review the wackiest predictions, as well as award prizes to the people who guessed most accurately what would happen one year later, or today.
Part 2 is the serious part. We invite subject matter experts to take the stage and let us know what changes we should expect in their area of expertise during 2018. We ask them to conclude by making 4 MEASURABLE predictions that are bold, and claim something concrete, not just nebulous. This year, we had predictions on Net Neutrality from DC Telecom lawyer Steve Augustino, Blockchain from Samsung’s Abrahan Kang, Cybersecurity from Bob Graham who runs BlackRidge Technology, Immersive Sports by Richard Green of Intel Sports, and 5G from our own Derek Kerton.
Join us next year for this fun and broadly interesting meeting. Presentations are available in the Member Library.
